north spring term 2025 round up!

Bigfoot North Spring Term 2025 Round-Up

As the days have grown longer, so has our list of incredible workshops and performances across the North! This term, we’ve tackled online issues with Caught Up in the Net, brought traditional tales to life through Story Detectives, and empowered young people with our Rebel Women workshops for International Women’s Day.

Here’s what we’ve been up to…

Safer Internet Day 2025: Caught Up in the Net

This year, our Caught Up in the Net programme played a key role in Safer Internet Day, helping young people navigate the complex and sometimes dangerous world of the internet. Designed to equip children with the tools to stay safe online, the workshop explores real-life risks such as online grooming, misinformation and digital footprints. With powerful storytelling and interactive discussion, our facilitators created a safe space for children to ask big questions and think critically about their online presence.

Schools responded incredibly well to the programme, with many teachers highlighting how it helped their students engage with online safety in a meaningful, age-appropriate way.

Across the North, our Big Experiences reached just over 4000 students!

“A highly recommended experience for children to be educated and engaged about safety online” – Assistant Headteacher, Lady of Lourdes

“Very engaging and pitched at the correct level. It engaged pupils rather than preached to them” – Y6 teacher, Cleadon Academy

World Book Day: Story Detectives on the Case!

This term saw the exciting launch of Story Detectives, a brand-new interactive programme designed to spark a love of reading by turning students into literary investigators! In this highly engaging workshop, children became detectives, piecing together clues hidden within stories to solve a mystery.

With magnifying glasses in hand (and plenty of dramatic twists along the way), EYFS and KS1 students explored a range of characters and conundrums to investigate the REAL stories behind our best loved tales! Alongside our classic Madam Dragon and Wolf on Trial workshops, Story Detectives proved to be a creative literacy hit!

  • Wolf on Trial at St Robert’s Catholic Primary

“Story Detectives was an interactive, fun filled way to get the children involved in storytelling in a very practical way” – Reception Teacher, Blackgates Primary

International Women’s Day: Rebel Women Step Forward!

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we proudly launched Rebel Women, an empowering programme highlighting the groundbreaking achievements of women throughout history.

From Ada Lovelace, the world’s first computer programmer, to Malala Yousafzai, who stood up for girls’ right to education, students learned about women who have defied expectations and changed the world. Through performance, discussion, and creative exercises, we encouraged young people to reflect on gender equality and the barriers still to be challenged today.

Teachers told us the workshop had a huge impact, sparking conversations about leadership, resilience, and empowerment among both girls and boys.

“The workshop challenged their thinking and has broadened their understanding of the world around them” – PSHE Lead, Bailey Green Primary School

Drama Club at Westmoor

Our Bigfooter Claire has loved developing the Drama Club at Westmoor Primary in Killingworth. Working weekly to build their confidence and performance skills, this is the brilliant feedback the children gave us before the half term!

Wherefore ART Thou? Shakespeare Comes to Life!

We are honoured to have been selected by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust once again to deliver sessions for their North East hub schools.

Our Wherefore ART Thou? workshops explore the story, characters, and themes of Romeo and Juliet through street art, making Shakespeare’s language and ideas accessible to children as young as 9 years old.

We were thrilled to receive this amazing feedback from Barmston Village Primary:
“Engaging and exciting – it was lovely to see the pupils so enthusiastic about one of Shakespeare’s plays. Pupils of all abilities thrived during the session.”
