Bigfoot SOUTH Spring Term 2024 Round Up!

Errol’s Garden

Spring 2024 saw the launch of an exciting new partnership between Bigfoot Arts Education South and Golden Toad Theatre Company as they begin a tour of their new musical based on the well known book Errol’s Garden by Gillian Hibbs. West Hove Infants kindly invited us to run a free trial of our new musical theatre workshop based on the book back in January – and it was a big hit!

St Luke’s Primary in Brighton then booked a storytelling workshop version which ends with the children planting a seedling which they get to take home with them – inspiring ideas about growing plants alongside learning more about the characters from Errol’s Garden.

If you would like to find out more about an Errol’s Garden workshop for KS1/EYFS then take a look at our info HERE on the website.

Arts Council Project funding

We are delighted to announce that Bigfoot South have been awarded Arts Council Project Grant funding to create an exciting portfolio of binaural sound experiences for the classroom. Imagine your class being able to learn about history through an immersive soundscape experience delivered through wireless headphone technology, and being able to create their own soundscapes in response. Creativity meets STEM in our new workshop opportunities for KS2.

The funding will allow us to work with a specialist composer Chris Drohan who is currently the lead practitioner at drama school LAMDA. Chris will use binaural sound techniques which use a specialist microphone to record as we hear, with sound coming from different directions. Really immersive and inspiring for the children!

If you would like to find out more about how binaural sound works please have a listen to this great video HERE by our partners Living Record Productions. Best listened to with headphones!

Our Regional Director Ross Drury will also be leading a podcast with snippets of binaural sound for you to use in class free of charge – do sign up HERE if you are intrigued and would like to get the link to listen to our new free podcast once it is created.

Early Years Storytelling performances

We also have some Arts Council funding to revamp our Early Years programme Story Tree Stories – with the creation of a tourable, pop up, light up Story Tree. We will be bringing our storytelling performances underneath the new Story Tree, along with new costume, props and puppets to libraries, theatre and schools across Brighton, Sussex and Hampshire. Please get in touch if you would like a Story Tree performance in your school.
