A beautiful storytelling workshop inspired by Floella Benjamin’s book – Coming To England.
Step inside a suitcase of surprises and join Tara Tickle, the Story Tickler, as she tells the heart warming tale of My Friend Flo. Through playful storytelling, props, songs, and actions, young children discover the story of Flo, a little girl who travelled all the way from the Caribbean to England on the Empire Windrush.
Together, Tara and Flo share what makes them the same, what makes them different, and how friendship can blossom across cultures. Children help build Flo’s house, dance in the Caribbean rain, and even set sail on the great Windrush boat, bringing the story to life with movement, imagination, and joy.
Celebrating friendship, belonging, and the courage of starting somewhere new, My Friend Flo introduces early years audiences to the Windrush story in a way that is gentle, interactive, and unforgettable. A magical first step into history through play.
Each session is 45 minutes long for a class of 30 children. We can work with up to 5 classes across a day. This programme is also suitable for Year 1.
Perfect for Black History Month, Multi-Cultural celebrations, Windrush Day, Diversity weeks and promoting literacy.
