Honeypots of Imagination

Honey Pots of Imagination: A Drama Workshop Celebrating 100 Years of Winnie the Pooh

In 2026 we celebrate both the National Year of Reading and 100 years since Winnie the Pooh first appeared in print. A century on, the Hundred Acre Wood still offers what children need most, humour, heart, friendship and stories that make reading feel like both comfort and adventure.

Honey Pots of Imagination is a one hour KS2 drama and literacy workshop that brings A A Milne’s world to life through speaking, listening, teamwork and playful performance. Ideal for teachers, literacy leads and oracy leads, the session strengthens communication skills while nurturing reading for pleasure through a shared experience built around a timeless classic.

Pupils explore who A A Milne was, how the stories were inspired and why the characters still resonate today. Through movement, drama and language play they bring key moments to life, from mishaps and misunderstandings to the warmth and wisdom that make these stories endure. Along the way children build confidence in speaking, practise collaboration and deepen their understanding of character, theme and authorial intent.

The workshop develops tableaux, improvisation and teamwork while embedding structured talk and thoughtful reflection. It ends by asking a powerful question, why do these stories still matter 100 years later. Pupils leave understanding that Winnie the Pooh endures because it celebrates kindness, imagination and belonging.

Perfect for an October anniversary celebration and bookable all year round, Honey Pots of Imagination supports reading for pleasure, strengthens oracy and offers Primary schools a joyful, meaningful connection to a literary classic.
