From page to stage – all in just one day!
Do you and your students have what it takes to create a play in a day?! This is an excellent opportunity for the whole school or to enjoy a group storytelling experience by exploring a variety of characters, locations and plots to create a unique piece of devised theatre … in just one day!
Example Play in a Day Text: Macbeth
Bring Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy to life in a single school day. Bigfoot’s Play in a Day: Macbeth transforms your classroom or hall into a stage where pupils explore ambition, power and destiny through drama, movement and teamwork. Guided by a professional Bigfoot facilitator, children work together to devise, rehearse and perform their own version of Macbeth, complete with props, sound and atmosphere.
The day begins with warm-up activities that build focus, confidence and ensemble awareness before pupils step into the story itself. Divided into groups, they take on key moments from the play, discovering the witches’ mysterious prophecies, Macbeth’s rise to power, Lady Macbeth’s ambition and the tragic consequences that follow. Through physical theatre, improvisation and character exploration, pupils learn to tell Shakespeare’s story using both movement and voice.
Throughout the process, students develop creative thinking, communication and collaboration while gaining a deeper understanding of character, motivation and moral choice. The day culminates in a shared performance where every participant plays a part, celebrating their creativity and teamwork in front of their peers.
This workshop is perfect for upper Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 classes studying Shakespeare or exploring performance and storytelling. It provides an exciting, active introduction to one of literature’s greatest plays while developing key skills in confidence, expression and cooperation.
