In the North we proudly brought powerful stories, creative workshops, and vital conversations to schools from Warrington to Barnsley to North Shields! From honouring history to empowering young voices, this term has been full of unforgettable moments. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to…
VE Day: Remembering Through Storytelling
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, our facilitators delivered powerful workshops that transported students back to 1945. Through immersive storytelling, music and drama, children explored the impact of World War II and celebrated the importance of peace and remembrance. Our workshops prompted thoughtful reflections and helped young people connect with the past in meaningful and creative ways.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and learned so much about World War II in a really fun way.” – Fulwell Junior School, Sunderland
“Educational, enjoyable, engaging!” – Rawdon St Peters CE Primary, Leeds
Celebrating Windrush Day 2025
Our Windrush Day workshops celebrated the incredible contributions of the Windrush Generation and their lasting impact on British society. Using film, poetry and lived experiences, students learned about the struggles and triumphs of those who arrived in the UK from the Caribbean post-WWII. Schools praised the programme for sparking honest, insightful conversations around race, identity, and belonging.
“The children really enjoyed meeting Clinton and Grace and exploring their story using drama” – St Lawrence Catholic Primary, Byker
Powerful Choices Tour: Taking the Message Across Yorkshire and Liverpool
This term also saw our Powerful Choices tour hit the road across Yorkshire and Liverpool, reaching hundreds of young people with its hard-hitting message around positive decision-making, peer pressure and keeping safe. We were thrilled to train up Izzy, one of our brilliant Bigfooters in the North West team, to deliver Powerful Choices! Our tour created a safe space for students to explore the consequences of their choices and how to stand up for what’s right.
“A brilliant thought provoking programme that all children need to take part in.” Ms Edgington, Y6 Teacher, Bywell Junior SchoolTo find out more about our programmes and discuss how we could work with your school next term please contact northeast@bigfootartseducation.co.uk
