Homefront Kids: How Children Kept Britain Going in WW2

An immersive drama workshop for Years 4–6 (1 hour)

Step back in time to the 1940s and discover what life was really like for children growing up on the Home Front during World War Two. Through roleplay, improvisation, and powerful drama techniques, pupils will uncover the extraordinary stories of ordinary children who played a vital role in Britain’s war effort.

Led by our professional actor -in-role educator, the session blends history with imagination to bring the past vividly to life. Pupils will meet characters like Margaret, Betty, Samuel, Elsie, and Tommy, each with their own stories, letters, diaries, and precious belongings that reveal what it meant to live through evacuation, rationing, air raids, and responsibility beyond their years.

Along the way, children will:

  • Gain a clear overview of the Second World War.
  • Understand the sacrifices, struggles, and resilience of British children.
  • Reflect on how war affects young lives, then and now.

With drama at its heart, Homefront Kids encourages empathy, curiosity, and deeper understanding of this pivotal moment in history, leaving pupils inspired by the courage of those who came before them.

A powerful mix of history and storytelling that helps children see the past not as dates and facts, but as lived experiences, full of sacrifice, resilience, and hope.

Workshops are designed based on the number of classes you want us to work with.
