Cut Out

Bigfoot’s Secondary Knife Crime Prevention programmes provides an early intervention approach to understanding key messages around knife crime and keeping safe. The programmes will provide pupils with a creative forum and safe space in which to have open discussions and respectfully listen to and challenge differing viewpoints.

Included will be opportunities for schools to gain an insight into their pupils’ views and concerns in order to identify areas for further work and targeted support.

Cut Out is an immersive, interactive performance workshop designed for KS3 & KS4 students that tackles the complex and urgent issue of knife crime through the story of Marcus, a relatable 14-year-old boy facing difficult choices. Delivered by a skilled educator and storyteller, the session unfolds through Marcus’s voice notes to his older cousin Nathan and a narrator who pauses the narrative to engage students in reflection, discussion, and critical thinking. The workshop uses real-life inspired scenarios to explore peer pressure, loyalty, fear, and the consequences of carrying knives, supported by relevant facts, statistics, and clear signposting to trusted help and support services.

The programme aims to deepen young people’s understanding of the risks and legal implications of knife carrying, emphasizing the importance of seeking help and making safe choices. Students are encouraged to consider their own experiences, challenge myths around knife crime, and discuss how loyalty can sometimes conflict with personal responsibility. Through guided conversations and activities, the workshop fosters empathy, resilience, and empowerment, enabling students to recognize danger signs, understand the law, and learn practical strategies to stay safe and support peers. The powerful narrative culminates with a poignant reminder of the devastating impact knife crime has on individuals and communities, inspiring meaningful reflection and a commitment to positive change.
