Uncle Beard’s Garden

Uncle Beard’s Garden – A Magical Performance Workshop About Bees, Habitats, and Hope

EYFS & KS1

Step into the colourful world of Uncle Beard’s Garden, a heart warming and imaginative performance workshop where children become part of a buzzing adventure filled with discovery, teamwork, and environmental wonder. Led by Beatrice the Beekeeper, this interactive storytelling experience invites young participants to explore the importance of nature, community, and caring for our planet through drama, movement, and play.

As the story unfolds, children help tell the tale of Delia the Bee,  a brave little pollinator forced to flee her beloved Wildflower Meadow when human builders arrive to change her home forever. Guided by Bea, the group takes on roles as birds, butterflies, flowers, snails, and even Uncle Beard himself, bringing the garden to life through performance and imagination. Along the way, they meet new friends, navigate challenges, and discover that kindness, curiosity, and respect for nature can rebuild even the most fragile ecosystems.

From the whirr of busy wings to the soft rustle of the meadow, the session transforms storytelling into a vibrant theatrical journey. Using props, costumes, and PowerPoint visuals, Uncle Beard’s Garden creates a rich sensory experience that encourages participation and empathy. Children act, move, and respond to sound cues as they help Delia find her new home, a beautiful sanctuary in Uncle Beard’s Garden where she and her family can thrive once again.

By the end of the workshop, pupils reflect on what they’ve learned about the environment, pollination, and the small actions humans can take to protect wildlife. Through laughter, teamwork, and creative expression, they gain a deeper understanding of how every creature, no matter how small, plays a vital role in our shared world.
