Moving On Up (Changes) – Transition Programme (KS1 & KS2)
Supporting pupils through change with creativity, confidence, and positivity
Bigfoot’s Moving On Up (Changes) transition programme is a joyful, imaginative and empowering experience designed to help pupils of all ages prepare for the move into a new school year. Through a blend of storytelling, drama, art and discussion, the programme encourages children to explore the emotions that come with change, celebrate their achievements, and look forward to what’s ahead with confidence and excitement.
For younger pupils, the workshop introduces the idea that change is a natural and positive part of growing up. Using games like Emotion Charades and creative Freeze Frames, children explore feelings such as excitement, curiosity and nervousness, discovering that it’s okay to feel lots of different emotions at once. Together they read and perform The End of the Year poem, design colourful “Take It With You” drawings filled with things they’re looking forward to, and create a class catchphrase that celebrates the fun of new beginnings.
Older pupils build on these themes with deeper reflection and creative collaboration. Through storytelling, discussion and Forum Theatre role-play, they explore real-life transition scenarios, learning how to problem-solve, support one another, and embrace change with resilience. Their journey continues with independent art activities and group projects, from creating positive slogans and adverts to expressing their hopes and goals for the year ahead.
Across both age groups, Moving On Up uses laughter, creativity and teamwork to make the idea of change feel exciting rather than scary. By the end of the programme, pupils leave with greater self-awareness, empathy and optimism, ready to take their next step forward feeling proud of who they are and confident about where they’re going.
Book this transition programme in the Summer Term as children come towards the end of their school year and start thinking about their new journey into the next year up!
Each hour-long workshop caters for a class group of 30 pupils from KS1 & KS2.
