This inspiring workshop invites pupils to explore the extraordinary lives of Black women whose courage, creativity, and determination have shaped history. The session uses drama, discussion, music, and storytelling to shine a light on lesser-known heroines such as Harriet Tubman, Josephine Baker, Mae Jemison, Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, and many more.
Through role-play, still image, hot seating, and ensemble work, children discover what it means to be a hero and a “rebel,” reflect on the struggles these women faced, and consider the values we can adopt in our own lives to stand up for what is right. Using poetry, images, video, and music, the workshop brings history to life in a way that is both thought-provoking and deeply empowering.
By the end of the day, pupils will be able to recall the achievements of these inspirational women, understand their lasting impact, and celebrate the resilience and bravery that made them heroes. They will also develop their own confidence, teamwork, and creative expression while recognising that anyone, of any age, can change the world.
Each hour-long workshop caters for a class group of 30 children from KS1 & KS2 pupils.
