Bigfoot Arts Education
Introduction
Bigfoot Arts Education | A Message to School Leaders
There is an African philosophy, Ubuntu, that reminds us of something profound and timeless: that it takes a village to raise a child. It speaks to the idea that no child grows in isolation, that who they become is shaped by every person, every experience, and every relationship they encounter along the way. At Bigfoot, we hold that philosophy at the very core of everything we do. For over 26 years, we have been proud and privileged to play an integral part in that village, walking alongside teachers and school leaders who share our deep belief that education is about growing whole, confident and expressive human beings who are ready to meet the world. We understand the enormous dedication you bring to your classrooms every single day, and we are here to stand beside you.
Â
Our Bigfoot arts educators are not simply performers or facilitators. They are remarkable, highly skilled practitioners with a rare ability to read a room, build trust quickly and create the kind of safe, warm and energised environment where children feel genuinely free to open up. It is within that environment that the most powerful and meaningful conversations begin to happen. Conversations about racism, bullying and the damage that unkind words cause. Conversations about staying safe online, about knife crime and the courage it takes to make the right choices. Conversations about mental health, about anxiety and the importance of knowing that help is always available. These are not easy subjects to raise, but through the joy of drama, storytelling and the performing arts, Bigfoot creates a space where they can be explored with honesty and genuine depth. Children do not feel lectured by our visits. They feel heard. And the children who leave our sessions do not just understand these subjects better. They leave more empathetic, more morally thoughtful and more genuinely supportive of the people around them. In the truest spirit of Ubuntu, they are learning what it means to belong to something bigger than themselves.

Our longevity is something we carry with enormous pride. Many of our educators have been with us for ten, fifteen, even twenty or more years, and that depth of experience walks into your school with them every single time. We have worked with children who grew up to become teachers themselves and then called us to bring that same magic to their own pupils. We have worked with newly qualified teachers who went on to become outstanding headteachers, and others who have since retired after long and brilliant careers. Through every chapter of those journeys, Bigfoot has remained a constant and dependable presence. Governments come and go. Policy shifts. But we will always be here, driven not by political winds or funding cycles but by an unwavering belief in the power of the arts to change children’s lives.
Â
That belief has never been more important than it is today. Creativity, empathy, self-belief and positive communication are the qualities that will define the next generation, and they are qualities that no algorithm can teach! They grow through human connection, through creative experience, through being truly seen and heard. When children are given the freedom to express themselves, they surprise themselves. They think with originality, communicate with confidence and carry those abilities into everything they do. That is the value Bigfoot adds, not just to a single workshop or school day, but to a child’s entire journey. It takes a village to raise a child. We are proud to be part of yours!
