Bigfoot have been delivering performances, assemblies, workshops and storytelling sessions in celebration of Black History since 2005. Each year our offer broadens and diversifies depending on feedback and requests from schools, and this year we are proud to have worked with a record-breaking number of pupils in both Primary and Secondary schools across the country!
Our HUGE range of inspiring programmes are designed help young people learn about the struggles and triumphs of our black ancestors and communities. From celebrating and exploring the history and importance of Carnival, to visiting the continent of Africa with our friend Anansi, to learning about and reflecting on the experiences of the Windrush Generation in Windrush; Then & Now. If that wasn’t enough our wide range of workshop programmes including Protest, Black and British and Her-Story explore an enormous range of important topics, as well as our wonderful storytelling programme The Story Tree Stories for EYFS pupils.
This year we were incredibly excited to offer schools two new programmes, which were received so warmly by all the pupils that participated. Our ever popular Hidden Figures programme was redeveloped to enable whole year groups to work together as interactively as possible, sharing even more stories of incredible black British people through history. We were also thrilled to introduce a new storytelling programme Africa Reborn, an immersive African storytelling workshop that celebrates the power of story, rhythm, and community.
We are very privileged and grateful to collaborate with very talented Educators and writers to bring these important programmes to life and into school halls and classrooms. They all work with such dedication and enthusiasm – we are incredibly proud of them all! A huge thank you to everyone we have worked with this year.
Each year we think that that the feedback from schools can’t get any better, but then it does! We have honestly been blown away by the most overwhelmingly positive feedback to our various programmes this year. Here are just a few of our favourite:
Keep up the brilliant work that you do. The children get so much out of these workshops; the learning sticks. This has been by far the best and most memorable workshop for the children.
St Paul’s CE Primary School
This experience encompassed exactly what I wanted to for Black History Month. Not only was it educational and fun, it was a celebration of the amazing achievements of black people, who have made remarkable contributions to society.
Grove Park Primary School
There has been a real buzz about the school with staff and pupils researching more ‘Hidden Figures’ from all different backgrounds, cultures and genders – this has been the inspirational spark that we needed – thank you!
East Farleigh Primary School
It’s quite rare to have a programme and facilitators that can effectively deliver to years 1-6. The team achieved it perfectly!
Broadmead Primary School
Engagement with both children and adults was outstanding, including those with SEN and children who struggle with behaviour, all of whom were actively involved in the session.
John Perryn Primary School
We really appreciate staff members taking the time to tell us how much their pupils have enjoyed and valued our visits, it really means the world to us all at Bigfoot. Read some more feedback about each programme HERE
