Exploring Movement, Trust and Ensemble Performance (KS1 & KS2)
This high-energy, collaborative workshop introduces students to the expressive power of physical theatre, where the body becomes the storyteller. Through movement, teamwork and imagination, pupils learn how to use posture, rhythm and gesture to communicate meaning without words.
The session begins with a lively warm-up that builds focus, coordination and physical control, helping students understand how every part of their body contributes to performance. Through games and exercises such as Walk My Walk and Swords and Shields, participants develop awareness, balance and individuality in movement.
Working in groups, students then explore trust and ensemble skills, discovering how to support one another physically and emotionally in performance. Activities like Group Lift and Body Objects encourage collaboration and confidence, while creative challenges such as building and “pimping” a car spark laughter, creativity and teamwork.
The workshop then delves into chorus work, using sound, breath and synchronised movement to create atmosphere and emotion. Students experiment with group rhythm, unison and abstract storytelling, learning how collective movement can evoke powerful imagery on stage.
Finally, participants devise their own short physical theatre performances, combining ensemble work and choreographed movement to produce bold, expressive storytelling. The session concludes with a group sharing and reflection, celebrating the creativity, discipline and teamwork that physical theatre inspires.
Dynamic, collaborative and full of imagination, this workshop empowers students to trust their bodies, trust each other and tell stories in entirely new ways.
These workshops are brilliant for enrichment days, Post Sat treats or Summer School Activities.
Sessions can be an hour or two hours long, each catering for a class of up to 30 pupils from KS1 or KS2
