Windrush; Then & Now

This workshop encourages students to work collaboratively to consider the experiences of the passengers who travelled to England in 1948 on The Empire Windrush. Activities will explore how this shaped post war multi-cultural Britain, reflecting on the legacy of Windrush on modern day Britain and the wider world.

The workshop will support pupils to:

• Understand the links between Britain and the Caribbean

• Learn about the contribution of different groups in the development of multi-cultural Britain

• Reflect on the voices and experience of Black people

• Consider the impact of the migration of people to, from and within the British Isles.

• Develop historical perspective about cultural diversity

• Identify and understand the changing nature of rules, laws and the justice system

Workshops are 1 hour in length and cater for a class of 30-35 pupils.
