An unforgettable workshop where we help year 6 children address one of the most important times in their school life – Moving on to Secondary School.
Getting lost on day one. Making new friends. Homework, fitting in and facing the unknown. These are the things Year 6 pupils think about, often quietly and alone. Bigfoot’s Year 6 transition workshop gives them a safe, creative space to say it out loud, explore what worries them and discover that almost everyone in the room feels exactly the same way. Honest, warm and genuinely useful for pupils and teachers alike.
The workshop centres on Upwards and Onwards, a specially created film following two young people called Stephan and Roxanne as they navigate the real moments of their first days at secondary school. Getting lost, falling out with friends, forgetting homework, trying to fit in and finding their feet. The film pauses at key moments and the room becomes part of the conversation, exploring each situation through drama activities, group discussion and a little bravery.
The group will take part in activities from stand up surveys, role play exercises, pair shares and quick quizzes, students will help to reassure one another, alleviate their fears and anxieties, whilst also exploring the many positive elements of transition. This really is the perfect opportunity to celebrate new beginnings in a positive and enjoyable way!
“The programme exceeded our expectations. It gave children creative and meaningful ways to prepare for moving on, and we would highly recommend this workshop to any primary school.” — Louise Appiah, Fairford Academy Barnhurst
